LONDON BREED’S ATTACK ON THE POOR:
More than 270 homeless folx arrested since July.

Since July 30, 2024, after the Supreme Court lifted restrictions on homeless sweeps, London Breed’s attack on the poor has resulted in more than 270 folx being arrested in the City. The majority of arrests are for “illegal lodging,” also known as sleeping on the street. And yes some of these folx have been placed for a bed in a shelter, but that’s not the solution you think it is.
Working in shelters throughout the Bay Area, I can’t stress enough how difficult it is for some residents to stay at a shelter, due to the conditions.
Some of the biggest drop-in shelters house more than 240 people at any given time with a bunk-bed style setup. In that setting, any type of privacy is nonexistent. Not to mention shelters are inundated with hella people who have stronger disabilities than others, and direct service providers on staff are left to figure everything out. Meanwhile, admin leaders get paid fat, touting “how much they care about homeless folx,” even though they rarely interact with residents directly.
It’s a grim reality for anyone homeless right now. This past year, a client was referred to a shelter I worked at from a different shelter, but only after several months of the resident pleading his case. The individual was an elderly Black man who was forced to have a lower bunkmate who constantly argued and sometimes physically fought him. This resident filed several complaints to his original shelter, but he was forced to stick-it-out until he was transferred another 6-months later to ours.
Just because someone got placed in a shelter space, doesn’t mean they are housed safely. For some, having a tent outside can provide a lot more peace of mind than having to sit in a shelter when the conditions are entirely out of your control.
The first video is SFPD arresting Markael Raybon simply for sleeping on the street. The second image is a screenshot from SF Standard mentioning the pigs laughing at Raybon because he was tripping off weed last time he was arrested. The last image is how many pigs it takes to typically arrest ONE person for being homeless.
A waste of Fukcing money to attack the poor!
