GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  • Accessibility: This is a publication meant for the masses and to draw its strength from the masses. To do this, we want to hear from everyone and strive for our entries to be understood by the average working person.

Not everyone has the same level of privilege in terms of where people live, education (college degree or not), class, or having family and a support group. To that end, this is not a theoretical journal that hosts polemics nor is it an avant garde artist’s “zine”, it’s a working class publication.

The goal of this publication is to empower readers to become more informed. We want to make sure everyone, despite educational backgrounds, can understand and grasp the material clearly.
  • Authenticity: Preserving the author’s voice. While suggestions and edits will be provided, the aim is to maintain the author’s original voice without imposing a specific writing style. However, sometimes we might ask for additional information to fully paint the picture for our readers.
  • Anonymity: Respecting authors who prefer to remain anonymous, while allowing others the opportunity to be recognized for their work in the form of publication. Both options include the $40 stipend.
  • Speaking Truth to Power: FRISCO VOICES will not support any candidate or work within a political system that oppresses people. This organization is committed to elevating the voices who normally don’t take the stage.
  • Not Being Trendy: The focus is on covering news rather than stating the obvious or following popular opinions.
